It covers about 1.6 km², between De l'Acadie Boulevard to the west, the Metropolitan Expressway to the north and the Canadian Pacific tracks to the east and south. Its name comes from the "Park Avenue Extension" subdivision: the neighbourhood developed from 1907 and was annexed to Montréal in 1910. Most of its dwellings were built between 1945 and 1970. The electoral district of Parc-Extension had 35,566 residents in the 2021 census.
Two Blue line metro stations serve the neighbourhood: Parc (opened in 1987) and Acadie (1988). Parc station on exo's Saint-Jérôme commuter train line is next to Parc metro station; it is in the former Canadian Pacific station, built in 1931 on the axis of Park Avenue. Bus lines 80 and 480 run on Park Avenue.
