Mount Royal
A garden city in the heart of the island of Montréal, two REM stations from downtown.
The area at a glance
Town of Mount Royal is an independent municipality of about 21,000 residents (20,953 in the 2021 census), surrounded by the island of Montréal. It was founded in 1912 at the initiative of the Canadian Northern Railway, on a master plan by landscape architect Frederick Todd. That garden-city plan is still visible today: two diagonal boulevards, Laird and Graham, cross at the centre of town, near the station. Most of the town has been a National Historic Site of Canada since 2008.
Two Réseau express métropolitain (REM) stations have served the town since November 17, 2025: Ville-de-Mont-Royal, at the centre, and Canora, on the southern edge.
The properties you find there
Mount Royal is mostly single-family homes, detached or semi-detached. Duplexes are fewer and are found mainly along the main boulevards, such as Laird and Graham. There are also townhouses and apartment buildings.
